The Vice Chancellor of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture
(MOUAU), Prof. Hillary Edeoga has come out with a downright statement
that the authority of the institution would not recalled its member and
Branch Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr
U.A.U. Onyembinama, allegedly suspended by the institution last month
for taking the university to court.
This announcement comes on the heels of an ultimatum given by the
Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to the authorities to recall
its member and Branch Chairman of the union, Dr U.A.U. Onyembinama or
face the full wrath of the union.
The Owerri Zone of ASUU had at its congress held at the university
campus, Umudike, yesterday, called on the University authority to
immediately reverse the suspension or they would paralyzed academic
activities in the institution.
Reacting to the union’s congress resolution, Prof. Edeoga disclosed
that the action of the university was prompted by the legal action
instituted by the suspended ASUU branch chairman who decided to go
against the stipulated condition of service of the university.
However, in their resolution the Zonal ASUU Chairperson, Dr Chinyere
Echendu, told newsmen after the congress, that the union re-affirmed
their support to the leadership of ASUU at the zonal level calling on
the university authority to reverse their decision with immediate
effect.
