The Vice Chancellor of Crescent University Abeokuta, Prof. Ibrahim
Gbajabiamila, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a
state of emergency in the education sector.
Speaking at a press conference to mark the 10th year anniversary of
the institution, the VC stated that the education sector has been
neglected for too long.
Gbajabiamila said the only solution to the decay is the declaration
of a state of emergency because the country cannot continue to tackle
the sector with the same approach that created the problem.
He stressed that Nigeria is in short supply of about 30,000 PhD
holders with many of them abroad. This is adversely affecting the
efficiency of tertiary institutions in the country.
He added that Crescent University was established as an intervention
institution that would combine academic excellence with moral
uprightness.
The vice chancellor, however listed the challenges facing the institution to include power generation and access road.
